Library Food and Drink Policy


To aid in the preservation and minimize damage to library material, no food may be consumed in public areas of the Library. Food may be allowed in a designated area for Library or official university functions approved by the Library administrators.

The exceptions to this policy are the first, second and third floor staff lounges and the Library lobby.

Drinks are allowed in the Library provided they are kept in a container that can be sealed with a
tight fitting lid. Examples of acceptable containers include:
  • A shatterproof mug or sports bottle with a tight fitting lid.
  • Plastic bottles with a screw cap.
Canned beverages or any disposable containers are prohibited.

Alcoholic beverages of any kind are prohibited per the University of Texas - Pan American
Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP), Section 4.9.1.

No food or drinks are allowed at any time in Special Collections, the University Archives the
Library classrooms or the Shary Room.
